"During the election, some people held red umbrellas and others held blue ones. But now that the election is over and we must focus on regional development, I will serve everyone — those under the blue umbrella and those under the red one alike."

Newly elected officials from across Gangwon Province struck a note of bipartisan unity Monday at a post-election reception held at Sky Convention Wedding Hall in Chuncheon. The gathering, titled the "Gangwon Development Congratulatory Reception for June 3 Local Election Winners," drew winners from multiple parties who emphasized cooperation over partisanship.

Wonju Mayor-elect Ku Ja-yeol laid out what he called a "one umbrella" vision — a blending of blue and red.

Taebaek Mayor-elect Lee Sang-ho of the People Power Party drew loud applause with a wordplay-laden pledge. "Governor-elect Woo Sang-ho of the Democratic Party has said he will achieve unity in provincial governance," Lee said. "I will achieve unity in Taebaek. One Sang-ho will serve the other Sang-ho."

Provincial assembly member Lee Seung-jin of the Democratic Party, speaking on behalf of fellow assembly members, echoed the calls for unity. "Many of you are talking about integration. That is only natural, and I will do the same," she said. "The people of Gangwon chose a governor from one party and gave the assembly a different majority. I will keep my promises and follow the will of the people."

Before the main program, the Chuncheon City Choir performed several numbers — including "Champion," "Toast Song" and "Beautiful Country" — to congratulate the newly elected officials.
