Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced Monday it will hold a two-day ship exhibition and experience event on June 19 and 20 to mark the 150th anniversary of Busan Port's opening. The event will take place at the BPA headquarters and the Busan Port coastal passenger terminal.

The event brings together major maritime and fisheries institutions — including Pusan National University, the Busan Maritime Police Station, the National Institute of Oceanography and the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology — to offer free public access to five vessels normally off-limits to the general public. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in a range of hands-on activities.

The five vessels on display are: the Nara, a 1,494-ton training ship operated by Pusan National University; Patrol Vessel 3001, a 3,840-ton craft belonging to the Busan Maritime Police Station; the Onbada, a 3,966-ton survey ship run by the National Institute of Oceanography; the Hanbando, a 5,255-ton vessel operated by the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology; and the e-Green, a 309-ton eco-friendly port guidance vessel operated by BPA.

Participants can learn about Busan Port's operations and explore electric propulsion systems to experience eco-friendly ship technology firsthand. No advance reservation is required — admission is free and registration takes place on-site at information booths in front of each vessel. Visitors must bring a valid ID.

Children under 14 must be accompanied by a guardian, with a maximum of two children per adult. Visitors must follow the instructions of staff members while on board.

BPA President Song Sang-geun said he hopes the event will deepen public understanding of Busan Port, the maritime industry and the participating institutions, and give visitors a firsthand sense of the port's future as it moves toward becoming an eco-friendly and smart port.
