Submissions accepted Tuesday through July 28; top entries to receive minister's award
The Ministry of Interior and Safety announced Monday it will hold a photo and video contest themed "Save energy and stay healthy with bicycles in the age of high oil prices," aimed at encouraging everyday bicycle use.
Now in its 16th year since launching in 2011, the contest seeks to spread a culture of safe cycling and reduce carbon emissions by promoting bicycles as an eco-friendly mode of transportation.
Entries can be submitted through the "Bicycle Happy Sharing" website from Tuesday through July 28. The contest accepts submissions in two categories: photographs and short-form videos.
Anyone — individuals or groups of up to three people — may enter with works promoting everyday cycling or addressing topics such as safe riding at intersections and on roads, permitted vehicles on bicycle lanes, and coexistence with pedestrians and motor vehicles.
Submissions will first be reviewed by relevant experts on criteria including relevance to the theme, artistic quality and practical applicability, then undergo public verification through the Sotong24 website before final winners are selected.
Winners in each category will receive the Minister of Interior and Safety Award. Full details are available on the Bicycle Happy Sharing website.
Winning works will be produced as promotional materials for events related to "Bicycle Day 2027" and posted on the National Safety Education Platform and the School Safety Support System. They will be used in public institution promotion, education, exhibitions and other activities aimed at spreading a culture of bicycle safety.
Previous winning entries can be viewed on the Ministry of Interior and Safety website, the Bicycle Happy Sharing website or its app.
Jin Myeong-gi, director general of the ministry's Autonomous Innovation Bureau, said a well-established culture of safe cycling is the most important foundation for promoting bicycle use. "We will work to make diverse use of the outstanding works submitted to this contest, so that we can build a sustainable future through bicycles together with the public," he said.
