HMM's relocation to Busan is moving forward in earnest. Following a labor-management agreement, shareholders approved a change to the company's registered headquarters, clearing a key procedural hurdle.
HMM held an extraordinary general meeting Monday at its Yeouido headquarters in Seoul and passed a resolution to amend its articles of incorporation, shifting its registered address from Seoul to Busan. Management and labor had agreed in April to pursue the headquarters move, citing support for balanced national development and the promotion of the maritime industry.
The company plans to relocate the chief executive's office to Busan first and is considering building a dedicated headquarters in the North Port area. The specific scale and timeline have yet to be finalized.
The move aligns with the ongoing redevelopment of Busan's North Port and government policy to concentrate maritime industry institutions in the area. Within the North Port redevelopment zone, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Korea Ocean Business Corporation, the Busan Port Authority and the Korea Maritime Institute are among the agencies being clustered together.
With HMM's headquarters joining the mix, the concentration of maritime and logistics institutions and companies around North Port is expected to grow further.
Amid this, "Harrington Mare" is now being offered for pre-sale in Uam-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, adjacent to North Port. The complex will be built in the Uam-dong area of Nam-gu and will comprise 2,205 units with exclusive use areas ranging from 37 to 84 square meters. Parking will accommodate 3,130 vehicles.
The development will feature a sky bridge connecting Buildings 101 through 104, along with community facilities including a sky lounge, guest rooms and a party room.
By vehicle, residents can reach Busan Station, Seomyeon and the Kyungsung University-Pukyong National University lifestyle district. Nearby amenities include Connect Hyundai Busan and E-mart. The complex is also close to several schools, including Seongcheon Elementary School, Daeyeon Middle School, Seongdong Middle School, Seongji High School and Baejeong High School.
Green spaces such as the Uam-dong Urban Forest and Uryongsan Park are also accessible nearby.
Meanwhile, sales promotion centers for Harrington Mare have been set up in Millak-dong, Suyeong-gu, and Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu, Busan.
