Actor Kang Ye-won, who lost her father about a month ago, has learned he left behind debts of up to 1.1 billion won ($713,000).
In a preview for SBS variety program "My Ugly Duckling" that aired Sunday, Kang met with a lawyer to sort through her late father's estate.
Her father had been receiving treatment at a care hospital before he died in late April.
The lawyer opened by telling her that her father's debts amounted to between 1 billion and 1.1 billion won (about $713,000). Visibly shaken, Kang asked whether she had to repay the money as soon as May, to which the lawyer replied, "Yes — are you able to pay it back?" Kang struggled to respond, saying she had no money on hand because of her father's hospital bills.
When the lawyer added that the debt could grow further, Kang broke down in tears.
