Registration open June 8 through June 19 on a first-come, first-served basis — a lifestyle sports festival where people with and without disabilities form teams and participate together
Jungnang-gu (district mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) will host the 2nd Jungnang District Mayor's Cup Eoulrim Boccia Competition on July 5 at the main gymnasium on the second floor of Jungnang Culture and Sports Center.
The competition is an inclusive lifestyle sports event in which people with and without disabilities form teams together, designed to foster communication and unity through sport. Following the inaugural event last year, this second edition is expected to broaden participation in disability lifestyle sports and deepen public understanding of and empathy toward disability.
Registration runs June 8 through June 19 on a first-come, first-served basis. A total of 16 teams will be accepted. Eligible participants are teams made up of people with disabilities and their guardians who live or are active in Jungnang-gu. Teams of three may include one athlete without a disability, though all three members may also be athletes with disabilities. However, professional athletes registered with the Korea Paralympic Committee are not eligible.
Teams wishing to apply can download the application form from the Jungnang-gu Disability Sports Association website and submit it by email or in person.
Boccia is a target sport in which players score points by throwing balls as close as possible to a target ball, and it is one of the most accessible lifestyle sports for people with and without disabilities to enjoy together. The competition will be held in the Eoulrim division as a three-person team event.
Matches will proceed through a preliminary round-robin stage followed by a ranking-based tournament, conducted under the rules of the Korea Boccia Federation for athletes with disabilities. Each match runs four ends with a six-minute time limit per end, though specific formats may be adjusted depending on on-site conditions.
"Through this competition, we plan to spread a lifestyle sports culture where people with and without disabilities naturally come together, and to work toward building an inclusive sports environment that everyone can participate in," district mayor Ryu said.
