A man in his 30s who broke into the home of actor Nana, whose real name is Im Jin-ah, and attempted a robbery is now claiming he was the one who suffered injuries — just as sentencing approaches.

The Namyangju Branch of Uijeongbu District Court held an additional hearing Thursday in the case of the suspect, identified only as A, who faces charges of robbery causing bodily harm. Prosecutors had sought a 10-year prison sentence at a May 19 hearing, after which the court closed arguments and was set to proceed directly to sentencing. Additional arguments were reopened Thursday. In his final statement, A acknowledged unlawfully entering the residence and attempting theft but denied the robbery charges. He said he had obtained a medical opinion confirming he sustained a cut of more than 5 centimeters from a knife, and indicated he would submit additional evidence to prove his injuries.

A is accused of breaking into Nana's home in Acheon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, on Nov. 15 last year, threatening Nana and her mother with a weapon and attempting to steal valuables. Nana woke up after hearing screams and physically subdued the intruder, during which A sustained injuries to his jaw. A then filed a counter-complaint against Nana and her mother, accusing them of attempted murder, but police ruled the women had acted in self-defense and declined to refer the case to prosecutors. Nana subsequently filed a false accusation complaint against A, alleging he had reported her based on fabricated facts, and has pursued legal action since.

The first-instance sentencing hearing for A, against whom prosecutors have sought 10 years in prison, is scheduled for June 9.
