Police have launched an investigation after a gold bracelet disappeared from a locker in the changing room of a golf club on Yeongjongdo.

According to the Incheon Jungbu Police Station, a report was filed with emergency line 112 at around 10:55 p.m. on May 22 after a gold bracelet went missing from a locker at a golf club on Yeongjongdo.

The victim, a man in his 60s identified only as A, told police he had placed the bracelet — valued at 24 million won ($15,700) and weighing 30 don — in a trouser pocket inside his locker before heading out to play. When he returned after finishing a round with acquaintances, the bracelet was gone.

The locker opened with a smart key, and the one assigned to A was in a low-traffic area of the changing room. There were no CCTV cameras inside the facility.

A told Yonhap News Agency that he had checked multiple times that his locker was locked before going out to play. He said staff were slow to respond when he rang for help after discovering the bracelet was missing, and that the club's handling of the incident had left him unsatisfied. He raised the possibility that an employee with access to a smart key could be involved.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from other areas of the golf club and questioning staff who were on duty at the time.

"Because there were no CCTV cameras inside the changing room, we have not been able to confirm the circumstances of the theft," a police official said. "We are investigating with all possibilities open."
