The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced Friday it will conduct a survey and open call for proposals to incorporate public opinion into its budget process and expand participation among those it serves, as part of efforts to shape its 2027 participatory budget.

The survey runs from Monday through July 7 and is open to any resident with an interest in Daegu education — including students, parents and school staff. Participants can take part through a pop-up window on the education office or school websites, or by scanning a QR code.

The survey consists of 22 questions covering the direction of Daegu's education fiscal policy, budget priorities and opinions on desired projects.

Alongside this, the education office has designated the period through the end of June as an intensive submission window for participatory budget project proposals.

Those wishing to submit proposals may do so through the education office website, by mail or by fax.

Submitted proposals will go through review and deliberation by relevant project departments and the Participatory Budget Committee from August through September, followed by budget drafting and City Council review and approval from October through December, before being incorporated into the education office's 2027 budget.

Last year, the office received 170 public proposals and reflected 130 of them in the 2026 budget, covering areas such as strengthening environmental education, improving school meal operations and enhancing integrated education programs.

"The participatory budget system is an important mechanism for reflecting citizens' voices in education policy and spending," Daegu Superintendent of Education Kang Eun-hee said. "We hope for wide public attention and active participation so we can build the future of Daegu education together."
