Dongguk University WISE Campus announced Friday that alumni from the class of 1996 in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Garden Design donated 10 million won (approximately $6,540) to the department's development fund, marking the 30th anniversary of their enrollment.
A donation ceremony was held Thursday at Hwabaek Hall in the university's Centennial Memorial Building. Attendees included WISE Campus President Ryu Wan-ha, College of Global Culture Convergence Dean Heo Sang-hyeon, Office of External Affairs Director Seo Un-gyo, and department professors Lee Hyeok-jae and Yu Ju-han, along with donors from the class of 1996 — association president Kim Geun-woo and alumni Yun Yong-chan, Kim Jeong-gyu and Kwon O-yeong — as well as Department Alumni Association President Lee Du-hyeon.
Kim Geun-woo, president of the class of 1996 alumni association, said he hoped the donation would serve as a small encouragement for younger students to take pride in their department and focus on their studies.
Lee Du-hyeon, president of the department's alumni association, thanked the donors for continuing the tradition of giving and expressed hope that current students would be inspired by their sunbae's love for their alma mater.
President Ryu said the giving tradition of the landscape architecture and garden design alumni was a great source of pride for the university and a model for other departments. He expressed deep gratitude to the class of 1996 for honoring the department's reputation with their continued support this year.
