Quality improvement cooperation based on operational data

Parts supply system to cover both peacetime and wartime

Tata Daewoo Mobility has partnered with the Republic of Korea Army to strengthen maintenance support and improve the operational efficiency of military commercial vehicles. The initiative aims to raise vehicle availability rates by linking civilian maintenance expertise with field operational data, amid growing use of commercial vehicles within the military.

The company signed an MOU with Army Headquarters on Thursday at its headquarters in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province. The signing ceremony was attended by Tata Daewoo Mobility President Kim Tae-sung and Army Headquarters Logistics Staff Director Maj. Gen. Ha Heon-cheol, along with officials from both sides.

The agreement was designed to reinforce the maintenance framework for commercial vehicles operated by the Army and to establish a stable parts supply foundation. Tata Daewoo Mobility plans to provide diagnostic equipment tailored to its vehicles and run specialized technical education programs for military maintenance personnel.

Through these efforts, the company aims to sharpen vehicle inspection and diagnostic capabilities at military maintenance sites and cut response times when breakdowns occur. Reliable operation is critical given that military vehicles are deployed across a wide range of missions — including operations, logistics and troop transport. The need for maintenance cooperation between manufacturers and the military has grown particularly as commercially based vehicles make up a larger share of the fleet.

Sharing vehicle operational data for quality improvement is also part of the cooperation agenda. The Army will share maintenance data accumulated during vehicle operation, along with user improvement requests, with Tata Daewoo Mobility. The company plans to incorporate this feedback into vehicle quality improvements and product enhancements.

Both sides envision building a vehicle management framework suited to military operating conditions by connecting the Army's real-world operational experience with the manufacturer's development and service capabilities. They also plan to establish a parts support system covering wartime as well as peacetime scenarios, and to continue cooperating on stable supply chain operations.

Tata Daewoo Mobility plans to use the agreement as a springboard to further advance its military commercial vehicle maintenance support framework. The company also intends to expand cooperation in the public and special-purpose vehicle sectors, and to strengthen vehicle repair, parts supply and on-site inspection services.

"We are pleased to contribute to improving the operational efficiency of commercial vehicles for the Army, the backbone of South Korea's national security," President Kim said. "We will enhance the reliability of military vehicle operations through maintenance technology support and quality improvement cooperation, and continue building a mutually beneficial partnership."

Maj. Gen. Ha said the agreement would serve as an opportunity to bring advanced civilian technology into the military and improve the Army's equipment operation capabilities. "We will work to create a virtuous cycle in which field operational experience feeds back into technological innovation," he added.

Tata Daewoo Mobility has long provided the military with commercial vehicle maintenance technology education and vehicle inspection support. The company has helped build the capabilities of military maintenance personnel through regular training sessions, special on-site visits and mobile education programs, and has incorporated field feedback from military vehicle operations into quality improvements and service enhancements.

More recently, the company established a dedicated support system to ease difficulties at military maintenance sites, and has been expanding diagnostic equipment provision, maintenance information services, parts supply improvements and complimentary on-site inspection services.
