Jin Kyo-hoon won reelection as district mayor of Seoul's Gangseo-gu with overwhelming support from residents.
According to the National Election Commission, Jin captured 56.21 percent of the vote — 169,357 ballots — on Thursday, decisively defeating his opponent, who received 40.40 percent, or 121,725 votes.
On his way into the office that morning, Jin reaffirmed his commitment to resolving local issues and said he would pursue uninterrupted growth and a greater leap forward for the district.
"During the campaign, I went into the daily lives of residents and listened more closely to voices from the ground," he said. "I will work through each issue one by one and reflect them in the administration of Gangseo-gu."
"I believe the support residents have shown carries their wish to back the success of the Lee Jae-myung government and their hope to see Gangseo leap forward and grow into something greater," he added. "I will always stand with residents and build a greater Gangseo."
Jin reported to his district office Thursday morning, received briefings on key projects and pending local issues, and began his official duties.
