Priyanka Mohan says she 'fell deeply in love' with Korea's charms; agency eyes India as key strategic market amid rising middle class
The Korea Tourism Organization has appointed popular Indian actress Priyanka Mohan as its honorary tourism ambassador, targeting India — the world's most populous country — as a key growth market.
Mohan made her debut in 2019 and has built her career primarily in South Indian cinema. She starred in "Made in Korea," a Netflix original film released in March, which topped India's Netflix movie chart for two consecutive weeks and performed strongly in seven countries including those in the Middle East, raising her global profile. She currently has around 6 million Instagram followers and has regularly shared Korea-related content with her audience.
To mark the appointment, Mohan will spend a week in Korea visiting Seoul Forest and Tongin Market in Seoul, as well as Solgeo Art Museum and Uyang Art Museum in Gyeongju. Her itinerary centers on experiential activities, including a traditional market tour, a K-food cooking class, a wellness spa session and a personal color consultation.
At Solhyangjae in Eunpyeong Hanok Village, she will attend a gayageum concert set in a hanok and share the journey with her global fans in real time. "Filming the Netflix movie made me fall deeply in love with Korea's charms," Mohan said. "Through this opportunity, I want to experience Korea's regions firsthand and introduce the appeal of local Korea to my fans in India."
The Korea Tourism Organization views India as a core strategic market. With the world's largest population and a rapidly expanding middle class, India is seeing fast-growing demand for overseas travel.
