Seoul's Jung-gu district will conduct its "2026 Intensive Safety Inspection" at 89 facilities across the district through June 19, district Mayor Kim Gil-sung announced Thursday. The drive aims to prevent disasters and safety accidents ahead of the approaching summer season and in the wake of recent large-scale incidents.
The primary targets span traditional markets and large retail stores (26 sites), apartment complexes and general buildings (15), tourism accommodations and karaoke establishments (12), mechanical parking facilities (8), and performance halls and museums (7). Inspectors will pay particular attention to high-risk sites, including aging buildings more than 30 years old since completion and facilities with high public foot traffic. Joint inspection teams will comprise civil servants responsible for each facility alongside private-sector specialists in architecture, fire safety, electrical systems and gas, drawn from the district's Safety Management Advisory Panel.
