People Power Party candidate Kim Jang-ho won reelection as mayor of Gumi in the June 3 nationwide local elections.

In a victory statement Thursday, Kim said the result "is not a victory for me personally, but a victory for all 410,000 great citizens of Gumi — and a solemn mandate."

"On Thursday, the citizens voted for the future rather than the past," he said. "I will stake everything on innovation and a new leap forward for Gumi, and repay that trust with a city government that truly serves its people."

Kim also pledged to heal divisions that emerged during the campaign. "I will work to bring about unity and harmony," he said, adding that he would "prove it again — not with words, but with clear results."

"Just as I did over the past four years, I will lace up my sneakers and run hard for the next four years — solely for Gumi — to drive innovation and achieve a new leap forward," Kim said.
