People Power Party candidate Ahn Jae-man won the Sangju mayoral race in the June 3 nationwide local elections.

Speaking Thursday after his victory was confirmed, Ahn said the result represented "a great change in which citizens chose to break with an outdated election culture and chart a new future for Sangju."

"This victory belongs to every great citizen who yearns for a better Sangju," he added. "I will take to heart both the warm encouragement and the sharp rebukes citizens gave me during the campaign, and reflect them in how I govern."

Ahn pledged to be "a mayor who serves only the citizens and repays their trust through action and results," promising to fulfill every campaign pledge he made. "Together with the people of Sangju, I will build a city that draws people in, buzzes with energy and thrives economically," he said.
