People Power Party candidate Cho Jae-gu won the Daegu Nam-gu district chief race in Wednesday's nationwide local elections.
Cho said Thursday he would devote his full energy to the district's final four years of development, pledging to see through projects already underway. "Building on the potential Nam-gu has demonstrated over the past eight years, I will take responsibility for completing what we have started, drawing on proven experience and strong drive," he said.
He outlined plans to replace the 60-year-old Nam-gu district office and build new facilities in Icheon-dong and Daemyeong 2-dong, introducing an AI-ready administrative system. He also said he would push to fully open the western section of Daegu's third ring road near the former US military base, following last year's opening of the eastern section. "I will complete a first-class Nam-gu," he said.
Cho added that he would secure land returned from the Camp George site to develop a southern fire station, a second public sports center and a park, creating new engines of growth. He also pledged to establish a cultural tourism and jobs platform on Apsan and set up a Nam-gu cultural tourism foundation to draw more visitors to the district.
