People Power Party candidate Kim Yong-pan won the Dalseo-gu district chief seat in Daegu in Wednesday's nationwide local elections.

In a victory statement Thursday, Kim thanked the district's 530,000 residents and pledged to deliver on his six reform initiatives and two key campaign promises.

"I am sincerely grateful to the people of Dalseo-gu who believed in me and made their choice," he said. "This victory reflects the aspirations of all residents who have longed for change — and it is a solemn mandate."

Kim said he would dramatically transform his home district into what he called a "sacred ground of happy self-governance" that the rest of the country would look to as a model.

"I will repay the support of residents with strong action and clear results," he said, adding that he would devote all his energy to building "a greater, happier Dalseo-gu."
