A man in his 70s was seriously injured after falling from a ladder while hanging a congratulatory banner for a winner of the June 3 local elections.

According to the Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station, the man, identified only as A, a daily-wage worker employed by a banner production and installation company, fell 2.5 meters to the ground from a ladder set up at a pedestrian crossing traffic light in Cheongye-dong, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong, around noon Thursday.

A was taken unconscious to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment. Whether his life is in danger has not been confirmed.

Police said A was installing a congratulatory banner for a winner of the June 3 local elections when the accident occurred.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including whether safety regulations were followed, and have questioned a colleague who was working alongside A as well as other company officials.
