The Korea Credit Finance Association said Thursday its candidate recommendation committee convened and nominated former KB Financial Vice Chairman Lee Dong-chul as the sole candidate for the next association chief after he secured a majority of votes.

The association plans to hold an extraordinary general meeting on June 16 to formally elect Lee as the 14th chairman of the Korea Credit Finance Association. The term is three years. The position has remained unfilled for more than six months despite the expiration of incumbent Chairman Jeong Wan-gyu's term last October, as the selection process faced repeated delays.

Born in 1961, Lee holds a law degree from Korea University. He also completed an LL.M. program at Tulane University Law School in the United States and is licensed as a New York State attorney.

Lee joined KB Kookmin Bank in 1990 and went on to serve as senior managing director of KB Financial's strategy and planning division, executive vice president of KB Life Insurance's management planning division, and chief strategy officer of KB Financial, before becoming president of KB Kookmin Card. His performance as head of KB Kookmin Card earned him recognition within the group and led to his appointment as vice chairman.

As vice chairman of KB Financial, he oversaw the global and insurance businesses as well as the digital and IT divisions, building broad experience across the financial services and card industries.
