Changuek Tteokjip's "hobak injeolmi" — a pumpkin rice cake that has been drawing nationwide attention — is now available at Gwangju Songjeong Station.
The city of Gwangju announced Thursday that it has partnered with Changuek Tteokjip, a local culinary brand, to run a pop-up store in the main hall of Gwangju Songjeong KTX Station throughout June.
The city organized the pop-up in collaboration with Korea Railroad Corporation, Korail Distribution Co., the Gwangju Tourism Corporation's Tourism Business Support Center and Changuek Tteokjip. The store operates daily from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Gwangju said it planned the event to actively promote the region's signature foods to travelers and business visitors as public interest in culinary content has grown in recent years. The initiative aims to expand market access for local businesses while further developing Gwangju's food tourism offerings.
Changuek Tteokjip is a rice cake brand that has long represented Gwangju through its traditional recipes and flavors. The pop-up will showcase more than 10 products, led by the bestselling hobak injeolmi and including cocoa seolgi, rainbow seolgi, black sesame injeolmi and assorted glutinous rice cakes — a lineup designed to appeal to younger palates. Passengers passing through Gwangju Songjeong Station can browse the products in person and buy on the spot.
Han Song-hwa, head of Gwangju's Tourism City Division, said the pop-up store is "a meaningful opportunity to introduce visitors to Gwangju Songjeong Station to the city's deep flavors and charm." She added that the city would actively support local brands in growing alongside the tourism industry to generate a mutually beneficial effect.
