Singer Kim Heung-guk, one of South Korea's most dedicated celebrity soccer fans, is heading abroad to cheer on the national team at the North America World Cup.
According to his management, Kim will depart June 10 and join a Korean diaspora cheering squad in Mexico to support the South Korean national team.
Kim's tradition of traveling overseas for World Cup support dates back to the 1990 Italy World Cup, spanning more than three decades. The North America World Cup will mark his eighth such trip.
"Airfare, fuel costs and the exchange rate are all a burden, but I could not give up on cheering for South Korean soccer," Kim said. "I believe it is my role to go wherever the national team plays."
