1,000 parasols available at 13 parks and tourist sites through September

Residents visiting Ulsan Grand Park, Taehwagang National Garden and other parks and tourist attractions across the city can borrow parasols free of charge through September.

Ulsan city launched the "conscience parasol" lending program to protect residents from heat-related illness during the summer months, placing 1,000 parasols at 13 outdoor parks and tourist facilities across five districts and counties. The city said parasols block direct sunlight and can lower the perceived temperature by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.

The 13 locations span all five districts: in Nam-gu, Ulsan Grand Park, Taehwagang National Garden, Jangseongpo Culture Village, Seonam Lake Park and Samho Migratory Bird Center; in Dong-gu, Daewangam Park, Ilsan Beach and the Ulsan Bridge Observatory; in Buk-gu, Gibaksanseong Fortress; and in Ulju-gun, the Taehwagang Ecology Center, Yeongnam Alps Complex Welcome Center, Oegosan Onggi Village and Myeongseon Island.

The city is promoting the program under the slogan "Use it briefly, return it to its place," operating on a self-return basis that relies on residents to bring parasols back after use.

"Alongside the parasol lending program, we are preparing a range of heat-wave measures — including expanding cooling shelter operations, upgrading heat-reduction facilities and protecting vulnerable groups — so that residents can spend the summer safely and in good health," a city official said.
