Congratulations to Jin Kyo-hoon on his election as Gangseo-gu district mayor

Democratic Party of Korea candidate Jin Kyo-hoon stepped out of his campaign office in the early hours of Thursday to address supporters after his victory in the Gangseo-gu district mayor by-election became all but certain past midnight.

With 95 percent of ballots counted as of around 9 a.m. Thursday, Jin had secured 56.7 percent of the vote, outpacing People Power Party candidate Kim Jin-seon by 16.8 percentage points to clinch the win.

At the vote-counting center the previous night, around 100 supporters and residents had gathered alongside Assembly member Jin Seong-jun, former district mayor Noh Hyeon-song, and candidates for city and district council seats, cheering and applauding as the results came in.

Jin offered his condolences and thanks to his fellow candidates and pledged to honor the will of all Gangseo-gu residents and commit himself to the district's development.

As he had done after the previous by-election, Jin reported to the district office the day after the vote, received a handover briefing from the deputy district mayor and immediately began reviewing pending administrative matters.
