Oh Do-chang has won a third consecutive term as chief of Yeongyang-gun in North Gyeongsang Province, securing victory in the 9th nationwide local elections.

"I sincerely thank the more than 16,000 residents of Yeongyang who trusted me and entrusted the county's future to my hands," Oh said Thursday in his victory remarks. "This win is a great victory for all residents who wish to see Yeongyang take a new leap forward."

Oh said he had campaigned on a pledge to usher in a "lifelong pension era for all residents," calling such support a right that every resident deserves. "I will complete a 'lifelong happiness city' where the public takes responsibility for every aspect of life — income, transportation, housing, education and medical care," he said.

Oh also extended an olive branch to his rivals. "All the candidates who competed during the election worked their hardest for Yeongyang's development," he said. "Since their aspirations also lie in regional growth, we will all move past conflict, join hands in unity and advance together toward a new Yeongyang."
