Kuwait International Airport suspended operations Wednesday after an Iranian airstrike, as the US military accused Iran of deliberately targeting the civilian airport with drones.

The US also rebuffed Iran's claim that damage to the airport's passenger terminal was caused by American missile interceptors.

US Central Command, which oversees American forces in the Middle East, said on X that "Iran attacked a civilian airport with drones, and it was an intentional, premeditated and unjustifiable attack."

CENTCOM also pushed back against Iran's assertion, made Thursday, that it had not struck Kuwait International Airport's passenger terminal and that the damage was caused by US missile interceptors. "This is completely false," CENTCOM said.

Earlier, Iran's Tasnim News Agency, citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported that Iran had not fired on Kuwait's airport, Reuters said.

CENTCOM also said Iran was claiming to have targeted a US Navy destroyer in the Gulf of Oman — a claim it called "a lie" — and added that "US military assets deployed at sea are flying, sailing and operating safely and without interference."
