People Power Party candidate Choo Kyung-ho has taken a narrow lead over Democratic Party candidate Kim Boo-kyum as vote counting continues in the Daegu mayoral race in the June 3 local elections.

With 45 percent of ballots counted as of 1 a.m. Thursday, Choo held 50.07 percent against Kim's 48.87 percent, according to the National Election Commission.

Kim had taken an early lead before Choo overtook him.

Broadcast exit polls had projected the two candidates would finish within the margin of error.
