App now initiates product searches and recommendations through dialogue
"Would you like me to find a meal kit from your recent searches that's good for one person?"
Naver's shopping app is evolving into an AI agent that helps users browse products through conversation. The update moves beyond simple product searches, introducing features that anticipate user behavior and proactively offer recommendations.
Naver said Sunday that its AI Shopping Agent — which marks three months since launch — has advanced from a shopping guide that helps users browse and summarize products to one that initiates conversations with users on its own.
The AI Shopping Agent debuted as a beta feature in February on the Naver Plus Store app, where it has been helping users discover products suited to their interests and preferences.
The latest update allows the AI agent to understand a user's shopping context more precisely. The key addition is the ability to initiate dialogue first. The agent analyzes a user's shopping history — including clicks, saved items and cart additions — alongside the latest trends to suggest directions for product discovery. After updating the app, users can begin shopping naturally by following conversation prompts the AI Shopping Agent raises on the home screen.
For example, a single-person household that has frequently searched for meal kits might receive the prompt: "Would you like me to find a meal kit from your recent searches that's good for one person?"
A user who has added a moisturizer to their cart might be asked: "If you're interested in skin care, would you like me to find products that pair well with it?" The agent also suggests more detailed options, such as "single-serving meal kits ready in under 10 minutes" or "products available in a three-pack bundle for around 10,000 won (about $7)."
Users can discover products that match their situation and preferences more quickly and easily without having to enter complex conditions themselves, the company said.
"The AI Shopping Agent is moving beyond a search-based tool that simply finds products — it is evolving into an action-oriented agent that understands a user's shopping context and suggests their next move," said Lee Jeong-tae, Naver's Shopping Search & AI leader.
