Seoul's Mapo-gu announced Sunday it is activating a preemptive pest control system to prepare for a seasonal surge in nuisance insects, including mosquitoes and love bugs. The district has devoted significant resources to mosquito and love bug control for several years. Last year it ran a door-to-door pest control service called "Dream Home" for families with children from vulnerable households.
This year, the district carried out larval surveys and control measures targeting overwintering mosquitoes from last December through March at 268 sites — including apartment complexes with fewer than 300 units, offices and mixed-use buildings under 2,000 square meters, and areas with a high volume of resident complaints — that fall outside mandatory disinfection requirements.
Starting this month, the district will conduct eco-friendly pest control operations in areas where love bugs are expected to appear. In mid-June, it plans to install pheromone traps on trees in the main infestation zones to reduce the love bug population.
