"Geoje, yahoo~."
Girl group RESCENE is rewriting the charts with a song released two years ago.
"LOVE ATTACK," the title track from RESCENE's first mini-album "SCENEDROME" — released in August 2024 — is setting new personal-best chart positions on major domestic music platforms. The five-member group (Wonyi, Liv, Minami, May and Zena) is riding a sustained reverse-charting surge.
On Monday, RESCENE broke into the top 20 on Melon's Top 100 chart. The group also ranked 11th on Bugs' real-time chart and 21st on its daily chart, 19th on FLO's chart, 105th on Genie Music's Top 200 daily chart and 54th on its real-time chart.
The momentum traces back to a viral moment on member Wonyi's personal YouTube channel, "Hello I'm Wonyi Nice to Meet You," where Japanese member Minami dressed as a "gyaru ghost" and coined the phrase "Geoje, yahoo~" — a reference to Wonyi's hometown of Geoje. The clip spread widely across social media and spawned a meme. Dialect-themed content pitting Geoje-native Wonyi against Gyeongju-native Zena has added further fuel, racking up millions of views. The channel has surpassed 590,000 subscribers, and a video of Wonyi and Minami visiting Geoje together has logged 4.79 million views.
The online buzz translated directly into streaming gains, and "LOVE ATTACK" — nearly two years after its release — continues to climb the charts on word of mouth.
Meanwhile, RESCENE is set to return in July with a remake digital single.
