G&Food, the operator of Goobne Chicken, said Sunday it would adjust the serving standards for its boneless drumstick, wingette and whole drumstick menu items.

Under the change, the pre-cooking weight of the boneless drumstick menu will be reduced from 800 grams to 700 grams. The company said it chose to hold consumer prices steady despite a prolonged rise in raw material costs and supply pressure stemming from a shortage of broiler chickens.

"The domestic poultry market has a structural problem where supply instability recurs every year, particularly for drumstick meat, which consumers strongly prefer," the company said. "The recent wave of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) has led to the mass culling of breeder and broiler chickens, further expanding supply pressure across the entire production base."

Goobne Chicken said it had until now absorbed rising ingredient costs on its own while continuing to use 100 percent domestically sourced drumstick meat. Rather than switch to imported ingredients or mix in other cuts, the company opted to adjust portion standards on select menu items to maintain its existing quality benchmarks.

Details will be communicated through the company's website and the Goobne ordering app, among other channels, on a rolling basis. Pre-cooking weight information for each menu item will also be made available.
