Talks to focus on securing technical and legal standards
KRX head also to meet Norway sovereign wealth fund CIO
Korea Exchange Chairman Jeong Eun-bo has departed to attend a World Federation of Exchanges board meeting and hold talks with Norway's sovereign wealth fund.
Korea Exchange said Sunday that Jeong left the country Saturday to attend the WFE's second board meeting of the year and visit the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund.
Jeong is scheduled to participate in the WFE's second board meeting, held in Luxembourg, where he will discuss key issues facing global capital markets and the exchange industry. The WFE, founded in 1961, is the leading global trade association for the exchange industry.
On Monday, also in Luxembourg, Jeong plans to meet with the heads of major global exchanges — including Nasdaq, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Japan Exchange Group — to discuss exchange management challenges and ways to strengthen competitiveness.
Particularly high on the agenda is the rise of tokenized shares, whose trading has expanded through overseas digital trading platforms. Participants will share views on strategies for established exchanges to secure technical and legal standards ahead of the curve.
Jeong is also set to meet Wednesday with Malin Norberg, chief investment officer of Norway's Government Pension Fund Global. He will brief her on the direction of market reform pursued by the government and Korea Exchange, highlight key achievements, and exchange views on South Korea's capital markets broadly.
Jeong will outline major market improvements aimed at enhancing foreign investor access, including the expansion of English-language disclosures. He will also hear the fund's assessment of the Korean market and its areas of interest from the perspective of a long-term global investor.
"We plan to hold in-depth discussions on the role of established exchanges and ways to strengthen their competitiveness amid structural market changes driven by the emergence of diverse trading platforms," Jeong said. "We will also continue to build trust through close communication with global sovereign wealth funds and pension funds."
Earlier, in April, Jeong traveled abroad to attend the 2026 Asia and Oceania Stock Exchanges Federation annual general meeting and conduct a global roadshow. During that trip, he met with the heads of major Asian exchanges in Hong Kong and Japan to discuss the direction of capital market development, and held a global roadshow for South Korea's stock market targeting major overseas institutional investors.
