Non-contact facilities run June 1 through Sept. 30; interactive water play sites open July 16; operating hours adjusted flexibly to reflect energy-saving priorities amid high oil prices
Geumcheon-gu (district mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) will begin operating 13 non-contact water landscape facilities — including ground-level fountains, wall cascades and streams — starting June 1 as part of its preparations for the summer heat.
The facilities are designed to give residents easy access to cool, water-friendly spaces within their neighborhoods. This year, the district adjusted its operating approach to reflect the need for energy savings amid high oil prices.
The facilities will run from June through September, with one to three sessions per day, each lasting 30 minutes. Hours will be adjusted flexibly for each site based on usage demand and weather conditions.
The 13 locations are: Geumcheon-gu Office Station, Garo Park, Sangiреuk Park, Hoamsan Forest Trail Park, Vacant House Garden, Geumbit Park, Doksan 3-dong Multipurpose Plaza, Sunheung Ahn Clan Burial Site Community Rest Area, Geumcheon Waterfall Park, Geumha Forest Trail, Siheung Valley, Ancheon Safe Forest Trail and Geumnare Central Park.
The stream-type facilities at Siheung Valley and Geumha Forest Trail offer nature-friendly rest spaces, while Geumcheon Waterfall Park uses a large waterfall installation to create a refreshing visual landscape. The ground-level fountains in front of Geumcheon-gu Office Station, at Garo Park and at Geumnare Central Park are located in high-traffic residential areas, making them easily accessible to all residents.
Alongside the water features, the district will strengthen safety management and facility inspections. Pre-operation checks will be completed before each site opens, with ongoing monitoring of facility conditions, electrical leakage risks and slip hazards to prevent accidents. The district also plans to reinforce "no entry or water play" notices and carry out regular environmental upkeep to maintain clean and pleasant conditions.
Meanwhile, contact-type facilities — including children's interactive water play areas — will operate separately from July 16 to Aug. 16, timed to coincide with the summer school vacation. Safety personnel will be stationed at each site, and regular water quality testing and reservoir cleaning will be conducted to provide children with a safe and hygienic water play environment.
