300 maritime workers and families take part; pro player simultaneous matches and AI baduk robot also on offer

The Korea Shipowners' Association held an amateur baduk tournament for maritime workers and their families to mark Ocean Day.
The association announced Monday that it had wrapped up the 2026 Korea Shipowners' Association President Cup Maritime Family Amateur Baduk Tournament, held May 31 at the Textile Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The event was designed to create a space for maritime workers and their families to connect while also raising public awareness of the shipping industry's value. It also aimed to use Ocean Day as an opportunity to spotlight the role the shipping sector plays in supporting the national economy and logistics.
Organized by the Korea Shipowners' Association and administered by the Korea Baduk Association, the tournament drew 300 participants from the maritime and port industries and their families.
Competitors were divided into divisions based on skill level — dan holders, advanced and intermediate — and used the games as an opportunity to both compete and socialize.
Side events were also on offer, with a professional player simultaneous match and an AI baduk robot experience drawing considerable interest from participants.
"This tournament was a meaningful event that not only brought the maritime community together but also helped raise public awareness of the importance of the shipping industry," Korea Shipowners' Association President Park Jeong-seok said. "We plan to continue organizing a variety of events to promote maritime awareness and spread a healthy culture."
