Korea Maritime and Ocean University held its 81st founding anniversary ceremony Wednesday at the Kim Gang-hee Hall in the library annex, one day before the official anniversary date. The event was organized to reflect on the university's history and achievements, foster communication and unity among its community, and reaffirm its commitment to a new era of growth.

The ceremony was attended by university President Ryu Dong-geun, alumni association President Lee Yun-cheol and other key members of the university community, along with National Assembly member Jo Seung-hwan, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Moon Seong-hyeok, Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries Director Heo Man-uk and Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Yang Jae-saeng, among other prominent figures from the maritime, port and business sectors.

In his commemorative address, Ryu credited the university's achievements since its founding in 1945 to the dedication of its alumni, the efforts of faculty and students, and the steadfast support of the local community and guests. "If the solidarity and cooperation of the local community and our guests are added to the resilience that has allowed us to turn crises into opportunities, we will stand even taller — not just as a leader in South Korea, but as the center of maritime innovation for the world," he said.

Before the ceremony, the university held a completion ceremony for its newly renovated central park lawn. The university redesigned the 5,435-square-meter central park at the heart of its campus into a space for relaxation and community, featuring an open lawn, shaded rest areas, seating walls, sculptural benches and landscape lighting.
