The Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association is linking on-site training for construction skills program graduates with home repair projects for vulnerable households. After completing improvements at the first supported household — whose resident has mobility difficulties — the association plans to select about 20 additional households this year.

The association held a plaque unveiling ceremony Thursday at the first household supported under its residential environment improvement project. Working under MOUs signed with the Korea Regional Self-Sufficiency Centers Association and the Korea National Volunteer Center, the association receives referrals for households in urgent need of repairs and carries out the renovation work.

At the first household, workers improved the wheelchair access ramp and vehicle drop-off area to make it easier for the resident to enter and exit the home, and also refurbished interior finishing materials. Construction skills program graduates took part in the work under the supervision of master craftspeople and other experienced professionals.

The association aims to help graduates enter the construction workforce by giving them hands-on experience applying the skills they learned at training institutions to actual construction sites.

"This project is deeply meaningful in that it shares the capabilities of skilled construction workers with the local community while giving graduates a real-world training opportunity," said Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association Chairman Jang Geon. "We will continue to contribute to improving the lifestyle environment of vulnerable residents and actively support new construction workers as they successfully establish themselves on job sites."
