Public-private partnership between Seoul Metropolitan Government and Adidas Korea upgrades aging facilities; futsal court to operate on advance reservation, other facilities open without booking
Guro-gu has completed renovations of four aging sports facilities beneath Guil Station after being selected for Seoul Metropolitan Government's "Seoul, Let's Exercise" lifestyle sports facility improvement project.
"Seoul, Let's Exercise" is a public-private social contribution initiative jointly run by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Adidas Korea, aimed at upgrading aging sports facilities to encourage residents to participate in everyday physical activity.
The four renovated facilities — a futsal court, a basketball court, an inline skating rink and a running track — are all located beneath Guil Station along the Anyangcheon.
Work on the futsal court included replacing worn artificial turf and goalposts, installing windbreaks and improving drainage. The basketball court received a new floor surface and replacement goalposts, while the inline skating rink had its deteriorated floor and stage facilities repaired. The running track was extended and fitted with anti-slip paving to improve safety.
The futsal court will be available from Monday through advance booking via the Seoul Metropolitan Government's public service reservation system. The basketball court, inline skating rink and running track can be used without a reservation.
An opening ceremony to mark the completion of the renovations will be held at the facilities Saturday at 6 p.m. Organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Adidas Korea, the event will feature a commemorative ceremony alongside lifestyle sports programs including futsal, basketball and running. A highlight will be a 3-on-3 friendly basketball match between a Guro-gu district office basketball club and Adidas Korea employees at the newly renovated basketball court.
Guro-gu District Mayor Jang In-hong said the project had made the sports facilities residents use most "safer and more comfortable," adding that the district would continue working to improve sports infrastructure so residents can exercise conveniently in their daily lives.
