District recognized as outstanding institution for large-scale national statistical surveys from 2024 to 2026; 17 staff members also receive individual commendations for contributions to accurate, reliable national statistics
Yangcheon-gu has received a commendation from the Minister of Economy and Finance in recognition of its successful conduct of national statistical surveys, as part of the "Outstanding Institution Award for Large-Scale Statistical Survey Operations 2024–2026" organized by the Ministry of Statistics.
The award was established to recognize institutions and individuals that successfully carried out major national statistical surveys — including the 2024 Household and Housing Basic Survey, the 2025 Population and Housing Census and Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Census, and the 2026 Economic Census — and contributed to the advancement of national statistics.
Conducted every five years, the large-scale statistical surveys are fundamental national surveys that capture the current state and characteristics of the population, households, agriculture, forestry, fisheries and industry as a whole. The results serve as foundational data for the formulation and evaluation of key policies by the central government and local authorities.
Amid increasingly difficult field survey conditions, the district took the lead in building a survey framework suited to local characteristics and strengthening on-the-ground responsiveness. It developed its own implementation plan, drew on an existing database of statistical survey personnel to select and deploy enumerators with field experience and communication skills, and reinforced training to ensure smooth survey operations.
Particularly in response to a changing survey environment — including a rise in single-person and dual-income households — the district actively used non-face-to-face methods such as online and telephone surveys. It also encouraged participation through promotions across various online and offline channels and coordination with apartment management offices. The district additionally worked to create a safe working environment for enumerators by establishing a cooperative framework with local police and other relevant agencies.
As a result, the district achieved 100 percent completion of the 2024 Household and Housing Basic Survey, covering all 130,693 households in the area with zero non-responses. In the 2025 Population and Housing Census, it recorded a survey progress rate of 100 percent and a response rate of 93.83 percent. In the 2026 Economic Census, direct visits to target businesses to encourage participation resulted in only 9 non-responses out of 17,665 businesses surveyed.
Alongside the institutional commendation for Yangcheon-gu, 17 staff members — including survey coordinators and enumerators — were also selected for individual commendations. Of these, 8 will receive the Ministry of Economy and Finance minister's commendation and 9 will receive the Ministry of Statistics commissioner's commendation.
Yangcheon-gu District Mayor Lee Gi-jae said the award was "an achievement made together by the enumerators and staff who worked diligently in the field with a sense of responsibility despite difficult survey conditions, and by the residents who cooperated so actively." He added that the district would "continue to closely identify changes in the community and the needs of residents based on accurate and reliable statistics, and pursue policies with real impact."
