Gangbuk-gu in Seoul will host "Dagachi Itjang," a social economy festival where residents can experience the values of the social economy firsthand, at the Culture Plaza of Buk Seoul Dream Forest on Saturday.

Organized by the Gangbuk-gu Social Economy Support Center, the event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The program features experience and sales booths run by local social economy enterprises, an awards ceremony for a youth social economy idea contest, busking performances and a range of participatory events.

Social economy enterprises will staff their own booths to introduce and sell products while running hands-on experience programs. Residents can browse each booth to learn about the enterprises' activities and products and get a feel for what the social economy means in practice.

Performances and the awards ceremony are also on the schedule. Kim So-yeon, runner-up on the singing competition show Singer Again 2, opens with a pre-ceremony performance at 11 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 11:30 a.m. At 11:40 a.m., the youth social economy idea contest awards ceremony takes place, celebrating creative ideas submitted by young participants. Local artists Wavelet and Kealoha perform at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.

On-site events round out the day. Visitors who follow the Gangbuk-gu District Office on Instagram or subscribe to its YouTube channel and verify a stamp tour can take part in caricature drawing and face painting. The photo booth is available to those who follow the Instagram account or subscribe to the YouTube channel and complete a satisfaction survey. A coloring wall and a rest area will also be set up to give attendees a place to unwind.

"We hope Dagachi Itjang becomes a place where residents can discover the diverse activities and values of social economy enterprises and where businesses and community members can meet and connect naturally," Gangbuk-gu District Mayor Jeong Chang-su said. "We will continue to show our interest and support so that the social economy can grow and take root more vigorously within our community."
