Roh Tae-woo, chief executive of Tokyo Electron Korea — the South Korean unit of Japanese semiconductor equipment maker Tokyo Electron — received the Order of Industrial Service Merit at the 2026 Foreign Company Day ceremony. It is the fourth time an executive from Tokyo Electron Korea has received the honor at the event, following previous recipients in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Foreign Company Day is a government awards ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Foreign Company Association of Korea (FORCA) to recognize companies and individuals who have contributed to attracting foreign direct investment and advancing domestic industry.

At the ceremony held Tuesday at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas, Roh received the decoration in recognition of his contributions to strengthening the competitiveness of South Korea's semiconductor industry through expanding investment in the country, building up research and development and technology support infrastructure, and hiring and developing skilled professionals.

Roh joined Tokyo Electron Korea as a new employee in 1994, began his career in sales, and went on to oversee new business operations and the Hanyang factory before becoming chief executive in October 2025. Over more than 30 years, he contributed to expanding Tokyo Electron's investment in South Korea and strengthening the company's research and development and technology support capabilities to meet customers' advanced process development needs.

Tokyo Electron Korea completed its third domestic R&D center, TTCK-2 (TEL Technology Center Korea-2), in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province in 2024, and is currently building a fourth, TTCK-Y (TEL Technology Center Korea-Y), at the Wonsamil General Industrial Complex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, with completion targeted for January next year.

"This award is less a personal achievement than one shared by all our employees, each of whom has worked in their own role for the advancement of South Korea's semiconductor industry," Roh said. "Going forward, I will lead Tokyo Electron Korea with an even greater sense of responsibility and commitment, continuing our investment and technological innovation and contributing alongside our customers and partners to strengthening the global competitiveness of South Korea's semiconductor industry."
