Open-market purchase set for Dec. 2; stake to reach 33.69% upon completion
Cumulative purchases since 2023 to hit 80.2 billion won; controlling shareholder deepens commitment
HBM TC bonder demand seen rising; company on track for record sales for third consecutive year
Hanmi Semiconductor Chairman Kwak Dong-shin plans to invest 10 billion won ($7.46 million) of his personal funds to buy additional shares in the company — his fifth such purchase this year. Once completed, his cumulative share purchases since 2023 will total 80.2 billion won.
Hanmi Semiconductor announced Wednesday that Kwak plans to buy 10 billion won worth of company shares on the open market on Dec. 2. His stake is expected to rise from the current 33.63 percent to 33.69 percent upon completion.
Kwak has bought Hanmi Semiconductor shares four times already this year — 3 billion won in April, 8 billion won in June, 5 billion won in July and 700 million won in October. Including the latest 10 billion won purchase, his total outlay for the year will reach 26.7 billion won.
In October, Kwak bought 2,549 shares for about 700 million won on the open market at an acquisition price of 274,235 won per share, lifting his stake to 33.63 percent. His cumulative purchases since 2023 stood at 70.2 billion won at that point.
The company said the repeated share purchases reflect Kwak's commitment to responsible management as the controlling shareholder and his confidence in the company's value.
Hanmi Semiconductor has sustained earnings growth on the back of expanding investment in AI semiconductor markets and HBM manufacturing facilities. The company expects to set a new annual sales record this year, following records in 2024 and 2025.
Growing demand for TC bonders driven by higher stack counts in next-generation HBM is cited as a key growth driver. Hanmi Semiconductor also plans to expand supply of new TC bonders, FC bonders and Micro Saw & Vision Placement equipment used in large-area AI packaging processes.
The company is also pushing into overseas markets. In October, Hanmi Semiconductor established a local subsidiary, Hanmi USA, in San Jose, California. The new outpost follows existing subsidiaries in Taiwan, China and Singapore, and is intended to strengthen technical support and semiconductor equipment supply for local customers.
"Chairman Kwak's additional share purchase reflects his confidence in the company's technological capabilities and future growth, as well as his commitment to responsible management as the controlling shareholder," a Hanmi Semiconductor official said. "We will continue to enhance corporate and shareholder value through our entry into the US market and the expansion of advanced packaging equipment supply."
Meanwhile, Hanmi Semiconductor's share price stood at 127,400 won at the end of last year before soaring to an intraday high of 426,000 won in May, then reversing course. By late October it had fallen back to the 180,000 won range. On Tuesday, the stock closed at 180,000 won, down 6.10 percent from the previous session.
