Seoul's Guro-gu is holding the "G Guro Guardian Climate Action Story Contest" through Nov. 30 to promote a culture of carbon neutrality in everyday life.
The contest is part of a climate action campaign aimed at recruiting 10,000 members for the G Guro Guardian initiative. It is designed to encourage residents and workers to share their carbon neutrality experiences and raise awareness of environmental conservation.
The contest is open to Guro-gu residents and people who work within the district. Eligible topics include zero-carbon activities carried out as G Guro Guardians, tips for accumulating carbon neutrality mileage, energy conservation, recycling, environmental education and personal accounts of participating in environmental campaigns.
Submissions are accepted in two categories: written works and visual art. Written entries — poems, essays or any other format — must be at least 500 characters long, including spaces, and fit within one to two A4 pages. Entrants may also incorporate original drawings, illustrations or photographs.
Visual art entries, including posters and paintings, must be submitted on eighth-size drawing paper and include at least 50 characters of text, spaces included.
Guro-gu will select 30 outstanding works through an internal review and award each winner an online cultural gift voucher worth 30,000 won ($22). Results will be announced Dec. 4 on the Guro-gu website, and selected works will also be featured in the district newsletter and on the website.
"We hope residents and workers will share the carbon neutrality efforts they practice in their daily lives, and that these small steps toward environmental conservation will spread throughout the community," a Guro-gu official said.
