Assembly Speaker Lee Jae-jin and eight other members take part in '2026 Yangjae Stream Walk! Health Festival'
About 800 residents walk 2 km along the stream; health experience booths and happiness concert also featured
Gangnam-gu Assembly members joined local residents for a walk along the autumn-tinged Yangjae Stream, using the occasion to connect with the community.
The Gangnam-gu Assembly said it took part in the "2026 Yangjae Stream Walk! Health Festival" held along Yangjae Stream on Saturday.
Nine assembly members attended, including Assembly Speaker Lee Jae-jin, Administrative Safety Committee Chair Lee In-seon, Economic and Urban Committee Chair Song Yeong-gwang, and members Lee Dong-ho, Park Dae-yong, Kim Yun-hui, Kim Yeong-min, Bae Geun-hui and No Mi-jin. National Assembly member Seo Myeong-ok, Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyeon-gi and about 800 residents also joined.
The assembly members toured health experience booths at the venue and tried various wellness programs before taking part in the 8th Gangnam-gu District Mayor's Cup Health Walking Competition. They walked a 2-kilometer trail from the Yangjae Stream Waterfront Culture Rest Area to Yeongdong 4 Bridge alongside residents, enjoying the autumn scenery and exchanging conversation.
The event opened with a pre-ceremony jazz band performance, followed by an opening ceremony and warm-up exercises before the walking competition got underway. After completing the course, participants capped the day with a happiness concert.
Health experience booths run by the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center and local medical institutions drew a steady stream of visitors. The booths offered a wide range of programs — CPR training, fitness assessments and biological age checks, mental health consultations, traditional Korean medicine body-type examinations, acupuncture treatment, sports taping, personal color diagnosis and X-ray screenings — giving residents a chance to check their health and pick up wellness information.
"It is truly meaningful to walk alongside residents while taking in the autumn atmosphere at Yangjae Stream, a cherished retreat for our community," Assembly Speaker Lee said. "Walking is something anyone can easily work into daily life to stay healthy, so we will pay closer attention to the Yangjae Stream trail and its surroundings to ensure residents can always walk and rest there comfortably."
Lee added that the Gangnam-gu Assembly would work to strengthen policy support for recreational sports and health promotion so residents can look after their wellbeing and enjoy leisure time in their everyday lives.
