Comedian Song Jun-geun has opened up about losing his older brother in a tragic childhood accident.

Song appeared on the KBS 2TV variety program Malja Show, which aired Monday, and spoke about the importance of family.

Song said the reason he in particular cherishes his family and pours so much affection into them stems from a tragedy he experienced as a child.

"When I was 7, I lost my brother, who was three years older than me," Song said. "Our family had gone on a trip, and my brother and I went to catch cicadas by a stream. He slipped on some moss and fell into the water, and died of cardiac arrest."

Song said his brother's death left a wound on the entire family that could never be erased.

"My mother carried a deep pain inside her heart," Song said. "She suffered greatly from depression, and watching her go through that made me feel the importance of family all the more and think about them even more."

Song went on to say he is "trying to be a friend-like father" to his daughter, adding that he "always carries in his heart the thought of treating family better with love."
