City meets Assembly member Jeong Seong-ho and Korea Land and Housing Corporation chief Lee Seong-hun

Yangju met with National Assembly member Jeong Seong-ho and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) President Lee Seong-hun on Monday to discuss key issues in the city's housing development zones and request support for smoother project implementation and improved living conditions for residents.

The city asked LH to take an active interest in and provide support for 16 major issues, including reviewing new housing development sites, resolving long-standing problems in existing development zones, expanding metropolitan transport and road infrastructure, improving amenities such as parks and waterways, and adjusting public housing supply plans.

Among the requests, the city asked LH to consider designating a new public housing zone in the Baekseok and Gwangjeok areas to support balanced development in the western part of the city and meet housing demand. It also called for the swift advancement of the Gwangseok district project and the development of rational plans to use idle and unsold land within the Goeup, Okjeong and Hoecheon districts.

On transportation, the city requested a review of metropolitan traffic improvement measures that reflect development-driven demand and local conditions, along with improvements to congestion at the Goam interchange, safety and pedestrian environment upgrades at Deokgye Bridge, and an expansion of the transfer parking lot at Deokjeong Station.

The city also proposed measures to ease residents' transportation inconveniences, including connecting major roads in the Hoecheon district, improving access to commercial areas, and expanding link roads between railway stations and nearby housing development zones.

Requests related to residents' living environment included strengthening pedestrian connectivity at Hoecheon Culture Park, reviewing the installation of a pedestrian bridge over Deokgyecheon stream, expanding waterfront spaces and resident amenities along Cheongdamcheon and Deokgyecheon streams, and creating parks and leisure spaces on long-unsold land. The city also proposed using unsold urban support facility sites as temporary truck parking lots.

Regarding the Jangheung public housing zone, the city asked LH to consider lowering the share of public rental housing to below 50 percent in light of local conditions and housing demand, and to expand public sale housing and adjust the layout of some parcels to strengthen resident settlement and the zone's self-sustaining functions.

Through the meeting, Yangju said it plans to continue working with LH to ensure that urban infrastructure — including transport, parks and daily amenities — is developed in tandem with housing projects.

"Housing development is not just about supplying homes — it is equally important to build the broader urban foundation, including transportation, parks and everyday conveniences," Yangju Mayor Jeong Deok-yeong said. "We will work closely with Assembly member Jeong Seong-ho and LH to find practical solutions to local issues and translate them into housing environment improvements that residents can genuinely feel."
