Asung Daiso, a fixed-price lifestyle goods retailer, announced Monday it will operate a dedicated product safety center inside the FITI Testing & Research Institute's Gasan Digital Test Certification Center to strengthen product safety management.
The company plans to build a "multi-layered safety management system" through the new center. Previously, Daiso managed product safety by collecting test reports and certificates from partner suppliers for products requiring safety oversight under relevant regulations, then verifying compliance with legal safety standards such as the KC mark.
Going forward, Daiso will add pre-launch in-house verification and a process to check for major changes — including raw materials, subsidiary materials and manufacturing processes — for each production lot. Through these steps, the company said it will directly verify the safety of lifestyle products sold in its stores and bring safer products to market.
The product safety center will select items for pre-launch inspection based on each product's characteristics and potential hazards, and will check for the presence of harmful substances in accordance with applicable safety standards. After an initial verification, the center will also monitor whether any changes occur during the production process and conduct additional testing and review if those changes could affect safety. Particular attention will be paid to products where hazardous substance management is critical, such as children's items.
"Daiso established its Total Quality Control division in 2018 to improve product quality, and we are now operating the product safety center to further strengthen that quality," a company official said. "Going forward, Daiso will advance a proactive, customer-centered product safety management system."
