Residents mobilize to bring Line 3 extension to Paju
Paju has launched a citywide petition drive to push for an extension of Subway Line 3 into the city. The campaign kicked off Saturday at two major civic events — the Citizens' Harmony Sports Festival and the Unjeong Lake Park fireworks festival — and is expected to expand further once a dedicated citizens' committee is formed.
The city said the drive marks the beginning of a broader effort to build public consensus around the Line 3 extension, which officials describe as a long-overdue priority for the region's transportation future.
The campaign's official slogan — "The power of united citizens moves Subway Line 3" — reflects the city's conviction that collective civic action can turn the extension into reality.
Organizers said launching the petition at two of Paju's most popular public gatherings was deliberate. The Citizens' Harmony Sports Festival and the Unjeong Lake Park fireworks festival draw large crowds from across the city, making them ideal venues to broaden awareness and encourage voluntary participation.
Paju Mayor Son Bae-chan said the Line 3 extension would "transform Paju's transportation map and expand residents' freedom of movement," calling it an essential project that can no longer be delayed. "We will move forward with strength and urgency, uniting the will of our citizens to make this extension happen as soon as possible," Son said.
Son also urged residents to sign the petition, saying every signature from a citizen who wants to see Paju grow "is a source of great strength," and asked for broad public attention and participation.
