More than 1,000 residents took part in the 2026 Yeongju Citizens' Health Walking Event, held Saturday at the Seocheon Parking Lot area in North Gyeongsang Province, the city announced Sunday.

Organized by the Yeongju City Sports Council, the event was designed to promote residents' health and encourage participation in lifestyle sports. Participants spent time walking alongside family members, neighbors and friends amid the autumn scenery.

Setting off from the Seocheon Inline Skating Rink at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, walkers followed an approximately 7-kilometer route that passed Yukgakjeong Pavilion and the first and second Gaheung bridges before turning back at Hanjeong Bridge and returning to the starting point via Swing Bridge.

Families with young children, friends and neighbors of all ages joined the event, enjoying the autumn landscape along the Seocheon riverside and sharing a sense of community.

"It was a meaningful occasion for many residents to walk together along the autumn-colored Seocheon, sharing health and vitality," said Jo Han-cheol, head of Yeongju City's Sports Promotion Division. "We will continue working to promote lifestyle sports so that residents can exercise enjoyably in their daily lives and maintain a healthy lifestyle."
