Pohang, a city in North Gyeongsang Province, attended the Yangtze River Culture Festival at the invitation of its Chinese sister city, Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu Province, strengthening friendly cooperation between the two cities.

A Pohang delegation led by Deputy Mayor Bae Yong-su met with Zhangjiagang Deputy Mayor Xu Jun on Friday and exchanged views on expanding cooperation in future industries, including hydrogen energy, and tourism, the city said Sunday.

The delegation then visited Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Technology Equipment, a hydrogen specialist company, where members toured facilities covering the full hydrogen value chain — production, storage, transportation, fueling and end-use applications.

As part of the 2026 Yangtze River Culture Festival program, the delegation also participated in a caravan and camping exchange event along the Yangtze River and visited the Shuangshan Island Dabodun ecological wetland park, sharing experiences in waterfront eco-tourism combined with leisure activities.

Pohang and Zhangjiagang began exchanges through the steel industry and have maintained cooperation across administrative, economic and cultural fields since establishing their sister-city relationship in 2009.

"Zhangjiagang is a cherished sister city that has built trust and friendship with Pohang over many years," Bae said. "We will use this visit as an opportunity to further solidify our existing ties and broaden the scope of exchange into future industries such as hydrogen and tourism."
