People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said former President Park Geun-hye urged him at a lunch meeting Monday to "fill the party with good talent."
Jang made the remarks Sunday on MBN's current affairs program "Sisa Special: Jeong Un-gap's In-Depth Analysis." The lunch took place when Park visited Seoul to mark the 47th anniversary of the death of former President Park Chung-hee.
"Former President Park told me that with the Lee Jae Myung administration in power, many of South Korea's systems are breaking down, and that to firmly defend our market economy and liberal democratic system, the party must be filled with people of strong conviction who are committed to upholding those systems," Jang said.
Jang added that Park also stressed the importance of electoral reform. "Former President Park said that while it is important for a party leader to keep track of many pressing issues, what must not be overlooked — in the wake of the ballot shortage incident — is pushing through to the end on fixing the electoral system to prevent such allegations from arising again, and on reforming the National Election Commission," Jang said.
